Pediatric Residency Program

Educating future military pediatricians for the Army, Air Force, and Navy

Program Description

The Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD have offered pediatric residency training since 1949.  Both institutions have a distinguished track record of training pediatricians who have become leaders in military medicine, academic medicine, the civilian community and in the American Academy of Pediatrics.   In 1995, the two programs combined to form the National Capital Consortium Uniformed Services Pediatric Residency.  Since 1949, the accomplishments of our alumni are a testament to the quality of teaching and training at our two teaching hospitals.

We maintain the legacy of exceptional pediatric care, advocacy and research that was developed by such role models as Colonel Ogden Bruton, Captain Andrew Margileth, Colonel Leo Geppert, Colonel Howard Johnson, Colonel James Bass, Captain Mac McCurley and many others who have shaped military pediatrics during their careers.
