Announcements:

All Staff Updates

MHS Genesis Updates:

Important Announcements:

  • Important items to keep in mind:

    • In order for an encounter to be closed out completely, the provider must both complete the charges (coding) and sign the note. When viewing your appointments in List mode, this will result in a completely Gray bar next to the encounter. If there is a white section over the Gray bar, then something is still missing and needs to be completed for the encounter to be finalized. See the attached PDF highlighting what this should look like.

    • If a provider does not complete their note and sign it on the same day as the appointment, then during the final step of signing that note, they should change the date stamp to the date of the appointment (and not the default date of the signature). Otherwise the tracking mechanism we have will still show that encounter as being open, even though the provider signed the note. (This is for billing purposes only, as I’m told that when the note is printed or viewed later, the actual date stamp on the signature will still reflect the date that it was actually signed.)

    • Lab Orders:

      • All labs must be FUTURE orders for lab to see them. If you order labs just as routine but not future, they route to “inpatient flow” and say order dispatched and lab CANNOT see them to draw. Lab cannot fix the order. So if you see “order dispatched” when you place a GENESIS lab order, you know it was ordered incorrectly and lab cannot draw it.

      • If you want SAME DAY labs when you hit FUTURE order, you MAY need to do an extra step. Future orders automatically date for next day – see Slide 10 on attached for exactly how to fix the “grace period” and date so that the lab can see and draw same day labs. I say you may have to fix them b/c I have had lab draw some day labs that I have not done the steps in slide 10, so I have asked lab for clarification.

  • MHS Genesis Patient Portal will be replacing our Tricare Online (TOL) platform

  • Safety Reports

    • If you identify a patient safety issue related to Genesis, please report this issue to your Super User and complete a PSR form. Paper PSR forms will be available in your work areas to complete, but below is the PDF version that you can print out

PEDIATRICS Pediatric Trainee Feature Essay Contest

  • A call for trainee essays on ACEs. Here is an excerpt from the PDF (attached below):

  • We encourage trainees to reflect on one or more of the following questions when crafting their essays:

    • How can we, as pediatric trainees foster resilience among our patients experiencing ACEs?

    • How have ACEs you personally experienced shaped your career path and identity as a physician?

    • How can pediatricians recognize and mitigate these issues during patient encounters, in training programs, and at the policy level?

  • The essay deadline is April 14th.

Research Opportunities & Upcoming Conferences

Upcoming Conferences:

2023 Helfer Annual Meeting: April 16-19th in Tucson, Arizona as well as virtually

The Ray E. Helfer Society Annual Meeting Scholarship was established by the Helfer Society to encourage trainees to consider a career dedicated to the care of maltreated children. The Annual Meeting of the Helfer Society is a mid-sized meeting that promotes exposure to cutting-edge research dedicated to Child Abuse Pediatrics, as well as the opportunity to network with early, mid-career, and senior mentors. The meeting will be held April 16-19, 2023, at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, in Tucson, Arizona. Helfer will be having a hybrid meeting with live presentations and virtual attendance option as well. This scholarship is intended to support travel costs and meeting fees for a trainee to attend the Annual Meeting with the goal of increasing commitment to a career in Child Abuse Pediatrics by talented physicians.

Partnership for Military Child Health Research Symposium: April 26th

The USU Department of Pediatrics and Division of Military Child Family Research is hosting the annual Partnership for Military Child Health Research Symposium on April 26th.

This event brings together DoD health care professionals, military family advocates, and researchers to advance care and advocacy for military connected children and families.

We are looking for research on military connected children for poster and oral presentation.

This is an opportunity to highlight recent research (including quality improvement projects) focused on the health and well-being of military children, and to highlight the experiences of military connected children and families within the larger military care and advocacy community. Previously submitted/presented research is eligible for consideration in addition to anything that you might be submitting for upcoming conferences including PAS, which will be in DC April 27-May 1.

Please contact Dr. Beth Hisle-Gorman (elizabeth.hisle-gorman@usuhs.edu) and Dr. Binny Chokshi (binny.chokshi@usuhs.edu) if interested in participating.

ARMY (NEW!)

  • AFCT Rodeo Pick Times are now available:

  • The A Co. Command Team will be hosting an ACFT Preparation event every Wednesday @0630 on the MWR field. The target audience are those individuals wanting to practice all ACFT events, and improve their ACFT scores while learning proper form and standards for each event. The purpose is to allow Soldiers to prepare for the upcoming ACFT in April. Every Wednesday, A Co. will set up the equipment needed to conduct all the events on the ACFT, there is no signup required just show up in full PTs (down grade as you deem appropriate).

  • IPPS-A pand ORB Updates

    • There are many changes being implemented and continuously coming to the S1-Human Resources processes here at Alpha Company and Troop Command. In an effort to comfortably and efficiently transition to IPPS-A, Troop Command has put together instructional “HOW-TO” classes in the coming weeks to facilitate this change. EVERYONE will attend one of these blocks of instructions and yes it is available through TEAMS. However, I highly recommend going in-person in case you have additional questions. I have attached the class schedule.

    • The point of this correspondence is to tell the masses that there are NO LONGER Officer Record Briefs (OER) or Enlisted Record Briefs (ERB). They have all transitioned to Soldier Talent Profiles (STP). One of the noticeable changes in this switch is that awards are no longer viewable on the STP. They are viewable in your Personnel Profile. The information that IPPS-A uses was pulled from other systems that include iPERMS. Please stay tuned as more information is sure to follow.

  • Planning on going on leave? You can find the most updated leave forms here: https://www.nccpeds.com/army-leave

AIR FORCE

  • Training Reports:

    • Drafts are due to Dr. Zanetti by 1May.

    • Please view the original attachments in the email sent on 23FEB.

    • We have transitioned to the ALQ, which does away with bullets and changes to a narrative format without abbreviations which is much simpler.

    • For PGY2/3, take a look at your last 2 training reports (if you need a copy let me know and I can send you).

    • In general you could address the following items (if you have them) in the academic/training and professional qualities sections

      • MEDRETE, humanitarian missions... with dates and what you did (also don't think we had any of these)

      • Papers, abstracts, posters, publications, etc

      • Precepting medical students (e.g. ICR at USU)

      • CPC title (for 3rd yrs)

      • Committee involvement

      • Care metrics (number of RVUs/cost of care delivered) – note when I compiled these they are cumulative for your residency, to get a reasonable estimate divide them by your PGY year so it reflects only this year.

      • The “Other Comments” section is generally a more vague statement about how you are doing – see examples in email

  • Laurie Creel is on extended leave; please forward any questions/concerns to Dr. Zanetti or Britt Bumgardner

  • PT Tests:

  • Leave

    • When submitting leave request from now through at least May: please put in the request that “Walter Reed Physician, leave is authorized”.

      • Andrews is not allowing their people to take leave without commander signoff during genesis roll out, but we are exempt. This will prevent your leave from getting denied.

    • Send a LeaveWeb request, designate Dr. Zanetti and Brittany Bumgardner as your primary and backup approver.

    • If you have a negative balance, submit requests to Col Rieker.

    • Ensure you are up to date with your Individual Medical Readiness
