All Staff Updates

SLP Referrals

When placing an SLP referral for WRNMMC SLP Clinical Swallowing Evaluation (CSE), please also place a RAD order. If the patient needs an MBS, it streamlines the process to ensure that the patient can get scheduled swiftly. In addition, if you want to just let the families know when you do your spiel, please ask them to bring foods that are challenging or problem foods/drinks and ones that the child readily accepts." Stop by the Chief office for a badge buddy with the IDDSI guidelines if you don't already have one!

Please view the info from DoD on Dobbs Decision and the following comprehensive list of walk-in Contraception Services available at WRNMMC for our patients.

Resident-Specific Updates

PGY2/3s: calling for assistance! As you are aware, MHS faculty and trainees greatly value and depend upon Point of Care References (POCR) to make clinical decisions and assist in education. There are two main ones currently available in the MHS: DynaMed (DM) and UpToDate (UTD). GME has been asked to assist in defining the requirements. We'd like to see if the theme of "nuanced expert recommendations for atypical presentations or management beyond specialty society guidelines, algorithms, and/or published studies" is indeed what is important to you. To that end, we'd like a few examples from you where you found an answer to a clinical question in one POCR but not the other. Note that measurement here is whether or not the clinical question is answered in this circumstance. For the examples you provide us, the patient encounter and clinical question must be from August 2022.

  • Formatting: 1) BRIEF summary--less than a paragraph, 2) Clinical question, 3) Search in one POCR with link that answers the question, 4) Search in the other POCR with link that does not.

  • Please email the examples to Britt Bumgardner

PI/QI: Next Session is on August 25th

  • Our knowledge burst will be on eIRB submissions

  • A3 Steps 3-5 should be complete

  • Please assign your team lead and notify your stakeholders!

Designed to mimic a clinic half day, each faculty member will be in an MDL room with your particular case. The students have 30 minutes with you to go through the case/skills. Then there is a 10-minute buffer between rooms. The students will move. You stay put and will deliver the same content 5 times. There are 9-10 students per group.

The students then come back together to discuss lessons learned from performing the HEADSSS exam. Teaching in this session would entail facilitating the debrief small groups of 12-15 students.
