Play of the Week:
Play of the Week goes to Dr. Katy Crandall for a phenomenal and successful LP with opening pressure on 3W. You're amazing! Play of the Week also goes to the daytime and nighttime NICU/MICC teams for working together to effectively resuscitate and transfer a baby delivered at change of shift. Also goes out to our very own Dr. Danny Rabe who tied for second place in the Chilli Cook Off!

“Quality Improvement: Iron supplementation in full-term breastfed infants at 4 month well exams” by Dr. Yejin Yoo
For those who could not be there, I want to make sure everyone is included and informed:
Problem Statement: AAP recommends that exclusively/predominantly breastfed full-term infants receive 1mg/kg/day of elemental iron starting at 4 months, until iron-rich complementary foods are introduced.
Our PCMH clinic has poor compliance of implementing this AAP guideline due to lack of standardization, provider understanding, or inconsistency in parental counseling at well visits.
Aim Statement: Increase the proportion of eligible full-term breastfed infants who receive iron supplementation by 4 months of age from X% (baseline) to 90% within 6 months.
Team Members:
All pediatric staff and residents at WR PCMH
Nursing staff
Interventions/Change Idea:
Implement a visual reminder and documentation template in the EMR at the 4-month well-child visit to prompt clinician to:
1) Prescribe or recommend appropriate iron drops- Please switch D-visol to Poly-visol with Iron at 4 month well exams for exclusively/predominantly breastfed babies
2) Provide appropriate counseling regarding iron- Please give parent iron handout (will be available in exam rooms and on the shared drive)
3) Document counseling and prescription in the EMR- Please use the dot phrase below and include “Start Poly-visol with Iron daily. Counseling provided to parents regarding infant’s iron needs.”
Also for those who missed the morning report, please fill out this quick 5-question pre-survey

The CATCH program, which has funded over 2,000 community projects over the past 3 decades, invites pediatricians in training and in practice to apply for grant funding to lead innovative community-based initiatives that increase children’s access to optimal health or well-being. The call for proposals opens Saturday, November 1, 2025, with applications due Tuesday, January 20, 2026, including special topical funding opportunities. CATCH grants are open to AAP member pediatricians and resident trainees in US and Canadian AAP chapters, for projects in the US and Canada.
