New Mask Mandate Guidelines

  • Masks are mandatory: upon entry into the medical facility, during patient encounters (with eye-pro), in all clinical and patient-facing areas, and corridors by hospital staff (buildings 1-10, 19, NiCOE, and 85T)

  • Masks are optional in spaces not engaged in patient care, meetings (i.e. morning report), spaces that are administrative in nature by supervisors, and in customer service activities

  • If at any time you experience new onset respiratory or influenza-like symptoms, immediately don a face mask and alert your supervisor (see below for further guidance on testing)

Chief Resident Selection Comments

  • It's time for the Chief Resident Selection for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year. There are four candidates, and they have all provided statements for you to read. Please submit your anonymous and confidential comments using the Google Form link below. The selection committee of staff and residents highly values your feedback.

    • **Please open on non-military computers**

  • The form will be open until November 8th.

Respiratory Season Updates

  • Patient Testing

    • See below for the respiratory testing algorithm for 2022-2023

    • The Respiratory PCR Panel 2.1 is the upper respiratory biofire panel with 22 pathogens

    • Peds ID can approve outpatient use of the biofire (respiratory PCR Panel 2.1) so please reach out to us for verbal approval if you have a clinical scenario where the expanded panel will help with management.

      • Peds ID on call phone (available 24/7): 301-648-0545

      • AMS Connect: WB Peds Infectious Disease (please include DODID in AMS connect message)

  • Healthcare Personnel Testing

    • Do not report to work if you have onset of influenza-like symptoms (fever, dry cough, other respiratory symptoms +/- myaglias, headache).

    • You must undergo testing for COVID (if testing occurs within 48 hours of symptoms you will be tested for COVID, Flu, and RSV)

      • If positive for COVID: HCP should call Occupational Health (301-400-0885) for isolation guidance. Please let your supervisor know the isolation period from OccHealth so the supervisor can help adjust manning accordingly.

      • If negative for COVID-19: isolate at home until afebrile for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications AND other symptoms are improved

      • If positive for flu: contact your PCM to discuss the option of Tamiflu

  • NICU Admissions

    • The NICU may be able to temporarily admit patients less than or equal to 2 months corrected gestational age in the setting of staffing and bed shortages on the inpatient pediatric ward. Admissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis as well as with consideration of the NICU census, anticipated deliveries, staffing and acuity levels. Back transfer to the ward should be considered whenever their space can accommodate.

    • Some appropriate diagnoses may include: Rule out sepsis, Hyperbilirubinemia, Dehydration, Failure to thrive, Meningitis, Urinary tract infection, Post anesthesia monitoring

    • The NICU does not have adequate respiratory isolation so all patients must test negative for influenza, RSV and COVID prior to arrival in the NICU.
