Plays of the Week:
Play of the week goes to Lt Col Susan Whiteway who was selected for promotion to Colonel! A very competitive rank and a testament to her outstanding contributions as Program Director, Assistant Department Chief, and Assistant Chief of GME. Congratulations!
Play of the week goes to Dr. Jenny Bencze who was promoted to LCDR!
Play of the week also goes to Drs. Kristen Smith, Brian Graziose, and Sidney Zven, who was chosen as one of the winners of the APPD Mid-Atlantic region’s $1000 grant competition for “Food Insecurity and WIC Enrollment in the Military”. As well as, Dr. Emily Ferraro who was selected to give the APPD Mid-Atlantic's Spotlight on Innovation presentation on Religion in Medicine.
Play of the week and sincere kudos to several residents who came by my office to request help/guidance with ABA renewal for patients seen in PCMH recently. I hope I am not missing anyone, but thank you to Dr. Jack, Dr. Reddington, Dr. Mauro, and Dr. Graziose for going the extra mile for your patients!
Play of the week and kudos to Dr. Alex Mauro who recently completed an EFMP update for a very complex patient and included detailed and thoughtful plan of care for each diagnosis. Accurate EFMP documentation is vital to family readiness, and Dr. Mauro’s work deserves a shout-out.
Last but not least, play of the week to Drs. Lara, Caballero, Warren, who were compassionate and comprehensive while taking care of an adolescent patient. As well as the Peds Clinic, who called the family first thing in the morning for a follow-up appointment. These remarks made it all to BG Davis' office.

PSU After-Hours
Residents -- please be aware that parents may call regarding PSU patients (sedated earlier in the particular day). If this occurs, please look up their sedation notes from that day to assist in any questions the family may have. If their concerns require redirection to the ED, please notify the family as well. Follow up any PSU-related questions with NP Susan Kline (susan.l.kline.civ@mail.mil) with a quick email after the conversation, so she can follow up the next business day. Please view the standard PSU discharge instructions below.
Library Website Feedback Survey
The library is conducting a usability study (PI/QI) to identify any pain points users may have with using the library's website. The library really wants to learn more about how users experience the site and ensure that it is user-friendly and organized in the most helpful manner.
This 2-minute survey is anonymous and designed to inform us of the tasks we should focus on in the usability study. The deadline to complete is Friday, 2SEP
Hospital Committee Sign-Ups
- Participation in hospital committees is an excellent way to make a difference in your hospital. GME input is critical to the success of our patient care mission. - Attached is a list and brief description of all hospital committees with a Survey Monkey link below the name of each committee. - Take a moment to sign up for a committee by clicking on the appropriate link and filling in your information. Please ensure you sign up even if you are already participating on the committee. When you sign up, be sure to double-check the spelling of your name and email address to ensure that leadership will be able to find you in Outlook. - You will have until 9/6/2022 to make your selections. If a committee has no more slots available, you will receive a message from Survey Monkey stating that the survey is closed. Simply return to the attached document and pick another committee. Your commitment to your selected committee is very important. Remember that committees can only have a specific number of housestaff representation, and other housestaff may not be able to be a committee member because you committed to participate in that committee. Understand that your involvement can make a difference! - The final list of assignments will be distributed on 9/7/2022.
PGY2/3s: calling for assistance! As you are aware, MHS faculty and trainees greatly value and depend upon Point of Care References (POCR) to make clinical decisions and assist in education. There are two main ones currently available in the MHS: DynaMed (DM) and UpToDate (UTD). GME has been asked to assist in defining the requirements. We'd like to see if the theme of "nuanced expert recommendations for atypical presentations or management beyond specialty society guidelines, algorithms, and/or published studies" is indeed what is important to you. To that end, we'd like a few examples from you where you found an answer to a clinical question in one POCR but not the other. Note that measurement here is whether or not the clinical question is answered in this circumstance. For the examples you provide us, the patient encounter and clinical question must be from August 2022.
Formatting: 1) BRIEF summary--less than a paragraph, 2) Clinical question, 3) Search in one POCR with link that answers the question, 4) Search in the other POCR with link that does not.
Please email the examples to Britt Bumgardner
PI/QI: Next Session is 6SEP
A3 Steps 3-5 should be complete; eIRB submission deadline is 15SEP
