Plan of the Week: June 9th - June 15th

Plays of the Week:

A very busy and exciting week here at NCC Peds, a lot of congratulations and milestones as we hit the end of the year!

Play of the week goes to Dr. Amy Davis and the Social Committee who planned a great Hail and Farewell this past Friday. It was great getting to see everyone and celebrate our program. A huge thank you to Dr. Friedman and Dr. Brennan who covered the Ward, and Dr. Sidney Zven who took care of the NICU with the residents out. Additionally, congratulations to our award winners:

- PGY-3 of the Year: Dr. Bailey Howard

- PGY-2 of the Year: Dr. Nicole Martin

- PGY-1 of the Year: Dr. McKenzie Bowling

- Fellow of the Year: Dr. Topher Stark

- SOWGAS: Dr. Mat Harrell

Play of the week to Dr. Marianna Caballero, and her mentor Dr. Stering, who finished off our CPCs for the year with an excellent presentation that turned out to be Diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma with Tuberculosis. Great case! In addition, shout out to Dr. Noelle Molter who had the least expensive CPC workup of the year, and Marianna, who had the most expensive. Thank you to all the PGY-3s and their mentors for another great year of CPCs.

Great work from everyone who presented their PI/QI work at our Final Presentations last week. Dr. Pehrson pulled me aside and said that the work our residents are doing really sets the standard here in the NCC, and that all the presentations were fantastic. Thank you to Dr. Richards and the Yellowbelts for all their hard work this year. Thank you to Dr. Brandon Neal, Dr. Rebecca Morgis, Dr. Daniel Rochford, Dr. Nicole Martin, and Dr. Amy Davis for their presentations.

Shout out to Dr. Noelle Molter, who helped coordinate things from the residency perspective for the Pride Parade this past weekend!

Congratulations to recent graduate, Dr. Riordan Ledgerwood (Class of 2021), on their promotion to Major this past week! They came back to the NCC to have the promotion ceremony done, well deserved. Additional Congratulations to Dr. Brittany Bumgardner, Dr. Nelson Vick, Dr. Jane Croutteau, and Dr. Jeremy McMurray (Class of 2022), who were also selected for promotion to Major as well!

Play of the week to Dr. Singh, who stepped up and gave an in depth talk on having difficult conversations at Morning Report after a speaker cancelled last minute. Thank you for going above and beyond.

Play of the week to Dr. McKenzie Bowling, who has gone above and beyond in providing excellent care for a complex adolescent patient with mental health problems. Often working well after normal clinic hours, her care of this patient has truly made a difference and her astute medical management led to a clinical improvement in the child. A humbling example of servant leadership.

Resident-Faculty Kickball Game

  • Who: NCC Peds Staff vs. Residents. Fellows, medical students and rising PGY-1 welcome!

  • What: NCC Peds Annual Kickball Game

  • When: 0730-0900, 18 June

  • Where: USU Softball Field

  • Why: Take part in a time-honored NCC Peds tradition. Back in 2017 when Dr. Patterson was a Major and Rob shared an intern desk with Dr. Arora, the residents and attendings took the field in a quarterly showdown to release pent-up frustrations that Reverse-Ed meetings couldn't quite placate. A tradition that was lost in the pandemic, but we're bringing it back! As per tradition, the resident team will wear bright colors and the attending team will wear black.

C. Everett Koop Lecture

  • Joint Pediatrics-Pediatric Surgery Grand Rounds

  • Wednesday, June 12th from 0800-1000 in America 2525

  • Adolescent/Young Adult Cancer Presentation by our own Dr. Sarah Cole
